What Happens If You Overstay?

Financial Fines

The penalty for overstaying is calculated based on your nationality and the exact number of days you have exceeded your visa limit. You must pay this fine at the airport's "Visa Violation Office" (Vize İhlal Ofisi) before you go through passport control to leave the country.

Entry Bans

If you overstay for a significant period (typically more than 90 days) or if you leave the country without paying your overstay fine at the airport, you will automatically be issued a ban from re-entering Turkey. This ban can range from 3 months to 5 years.

Residence Permit Applications

If you apply for a short-term residence permit before your tourist visa expires, you are legally allowed to remain in the country while your application is being processed, even if your original visa runs out.
